My Winter Strategy
January 20, 2010 |
Melanie I'm one of those people who tends to get down during the winter, but I have a strategy for dealing with it that really does help. Here's what I've got going on inside my house right now.

These flowers don't make more sunlight, warm up the temperatures outside, or take away bad news, but each time I look at them, I pause for a moment and feel some goodness. Today I decided to take some photos in hopes of spreading some goodness around.

Beautiful photos! I, too, find that I'm drawn to flowers during the cold winter months. It is the only time of year I regularly keep vases of them in my kitchen. They manage to somehow "take the edge off." For a visual perk, I also love to visit Jane Brocket's blog (http://yarnstorm.blogs.com/jane_brocket/) because she often has beautiful photos of blooming flowers during winter. If only I could smell hers and yours through my computer--
A gorgeous collection!
Don't forget the thrill of forced branches too. Witch hazel with the curly yellow twirls. I have good luck with weeping cherry. Today I picked the first huge bunch of forsythia wands.
Happy new year Melanie!

Beautiful beautiful photographs! Flowers are key to getting through winter. I have orchids (there are some which do quite well in Maine) and will go outside today and pick some forsythia and witch hazel (thanks Deborah!).
Lovely! My paperwhites are fading but my amaryllis is going strong! I love having them in Janauary too. That and seed catalogs get me through. It's been cold and gray in Kentucky since Christmas. ugh.
So beautiful! I like your strategy. I've been trying to keep fresh flowers of some sort in view this winter. It really does make things a little better. My amaryllis is just about done, so it's time to move on to something new.
